Installing on fedora

buddy1500
Hi all, new to linux here.

I've been able to install most programs that I've tried but webcamstudio still eludes me. The intallation page on ws4l.org covers repositiories and whatnot for ubuntu, which I think doesn't apply to me. I've got fedora 11.

as root,  yum install webcamstudio  starts the installation:   copy pasted here:

[root@lappitoppy ~]# yum install webcamstudio
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
adobe-linux-i386                                         |  951 B     00:00
livna                                                          | 3.2 kB     00:00
playonlinux                                                |  951 B     00:00
rpmfusion-free-updates                               | 3.2 kB     00:00
rpmfusion-nonfree-updates                          | 3.2 kB     00:00
updates/metalink                                        | 4.2 kB     00:00
Setting up Install Process
No package webcamstudio available.
Nothing to do

Do I need to download some package?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Hello,

Setting it up for fedora is a bit difficult. Infact, I actually switched over to Ubuntu to run it. I dual boot fedora 13 and Ubuntu
so I have the best of both worlds. Believe me, Its quite difficult to get it to run on fedora. My advice is to run it through Ubuntu
at this point.

Sorry I couldnt be more help,

coffee

Hi,

I don't know much about Fedora, but overall, it should be quite simple:

1 - Install the vloopback/webcamstudio module manually
a - unarchive the source, make, sudo make install
2 - Unarchive the tar.gz file into a folder so you will have the JAR file with the lib folder under it
3 - Make sure to install openjdk or Sun's JRE
4 - Invoke the JAR like this: java -jar WebcamStudio.jar (from the JAR folder)

If you have access to your loopback module (Read and Write), it should work...

hi (seven years later), did you ever succeed in installing webcamstudio on fedora? I'm trying to do the same thing but finding it difficult. Thanks for any advice.
